The 1860 Federal Census shows Lorenzo D. Ruggles as a merchant living in Milford with his young bride. In 1863, however, he returned to Highland, purchasing from David Stephens a farm on the north side of Rowe Road in Section 33. Here he built the impressive home seen in the photo below.
