Hiram Abiff Hills was born May 20, 1806, at Brookfield, Madison County, New York, the son of Amasa and Eunice (Rathburn) Hills.  He married March 17, 1825, Betsey Stevens, the daughter of George and Wealtha (Buck) Stevens, who was born January 22, 1809, at Fairfield, Vermont.   The couple initially lived in Erie and/or Genesee County, New York, before coming to Highland Township, Oakland County, Michigan, circa 1837-38.  They thereafter appear on the 1840 Federal and 1845 Michigan State Censuses residing in Highland.  Hiram's brother, James L. Hills, was also an original Highland landowner, but never settled in the township.

Hiram A. Hills played a brief but notable role in Highland's early history, serving two years as township supervisor and two terms as a justice of the piece.  Sometime prior to 1850, however, the couple removed to Novi Township, Oakland County, where they established a second farm.  Here Hiram A. Hills died on August 23, 1885, followed by his widow, Betsey (Stevens) Hills, on February 18, 1894.  Both are buried in the historic Novi Cemetery.  For more on this family See: Descendants and Ancestors of Hiram Abiff Hills at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/h/i/l/David-C-Hills/
