In 1899 I. Roy Waterbury was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives where he served two terms.  He was thereafter elected to the Michigan State Senate, serving one term.  Retiring from elective politics, he served on the Michigan Board of Agriculture from 1909 to 1921.  He was likewise president of the State Association of Farmers Clubs and served as editor and business manager of the Michigan Farmer magazine.  He died at Detroit on December 1, 1932, from complications of influenza.  His wife, Emma (Hagadorn) Waterbury, followed him in death on November 10, 1942.  The couple had no children.
